The central figure stands elevated on a broken mass of earth and exposed roots, not as someone escaping the storm, but as someone shaped by it. His posture is firm, fists clenched, body forward, gaze lifted. There is a sense of youth here, but not fragility. He appears tested, alert, and quietly heroic.
The sky dominates the work with tremendous theatrical force. Swirling clouds, flashes of lightning and a fierce golden light create an atmosphere that feels almost biblical. The storm is not simply weather; it becomes a symbol of conflict, pressure, transformation and awakening. Against this turbulent backdrop, the figure becomes a point of human certainty. He is small compared with the heavens, yet he commands the composition.
The exposed roots beneath his feet are especially striking. They suggest ancestry, grounding, survival and the deep unseen systems that hold a person in place when life becomes unstable. The title Roots In The Storm is beautifully chosen because it shifts the meaning of the image away from chaos alone. About the Artists
Robert (Bob) Dennison is a professional artist and a long-standing educator who serves as the Head of Art at Dauntsey’s School, a co-educational independent boarding and day school in Wiltshire.
Professional Training: Bob trained and developed his style at the prestigious Bath Academy of Art. His teachers is essentially a staggering list of the mid-20th-century British modernist movement, a period when British painters and sculptors were redefining abstraction, landscape, and form after the Second World War.
Tony Nutley: A Photographer and Digital artist - Studied with his father, for the most part, self trained with a keen eye for detail and creating images that invite you to really look and reflect.
